What if the roof is being used for open/community space applications such as raised bed community gardens. The planting area is less than 90% coverage with walks and paths required for access. Will a waiver be allowed?
Andrea Kretchmer

Is HPD funding the solar feasibility analysis?
Andrea Kretchmer
01:10:35
yes
Les Bluestone
01:12:06
yes

Jennifer, do you specifically work on the analysis of tenant energy expenditures in HPD rental buildings as part of the project proforma?
Camila Fernandez
01:12:15
My understanding of NYC’s community solar capacity is that it’s somewhat limited right now, can you confirm that and are there any neighborhoods where this will work better than others?
Giulia Luci
01:12:17
Re: solar screening tool, should it be completed with all solar array types available, or focusing on one solar type (ballasted, canopy, etc.)?
Camila Fernandez
01:12:59
Can you talk about incentives for old buildings to include solar arrays?
Chien Dao Glasgow
01:13:40
Thanks!

Sustainable roofing zone = net roof area after accounted from recreation (incl. community spaces, garden spaces, green roofs), UNLESS clearly an inefficient use of roof space.

A question on 'Value of Solar' on 25 Year Cash Flow tab calculated on the Screening Tool- if it assumes a higher value than what we have seen prior, can we provide the value we expect?
Camila Fernandez
01:14:44
thanks!

01:18:22
Hi Zoe: You can use the custom inputs, and submit a brief narrative with the Solar Feasibility to explain your analysis.
Giulia Luci
01:18:38
Hi Frederick, could you clarify under which criterion I'd be able to account for a green roof installed on a terrace accessible to tenant's (occupiable)?
Jennifer Leone
01:19:29
The narrative can also be used to justify a solar array where it doesn't meet the payback - e.g. a solar canopy that provides shade to a recreation space.
Zoe Grossman

Thanks Jen!

Giulia, Criterion 6.5: https://www.greencommunitiesonline.org/materials
Jennifer Leone
01:20:52
Giulia: You should fill out the tool to reflect the system you think makes the most sense - but you can play around with it as a design tool - and identify the array with best cost-benefit. And sure, let the architect know that moving some other components would allow a better array.
Giulia Luci
01:21:40
Thanks, Shelby - thus under "Roofing" or "paving" under 6.5? :)
Noah Ginsburg
01:22:21
Camila, fortunately all solar incentives can be used for solar retrofits to existing buildings. The majority of the solar projects in NYC are existing building retrofits.
Camila Fernandez
01:23:16
Thanks

Thanks, Jen!

Does your tool account for other construction trade costs other than the actual PV system?
Shelby O'Neill (Enterprise)
01:25:50
Giulia, Check out the table in this criteria under Requirements, if I understand what you're asking you would seek points for vegetated roof under the roofing req. But, any regularly occupied space on the roof (terrace?) would need to meet the paving requirements for reducing heat island.
Les Bluestone
01:26:34
In addition to the roofing work, I'm also thinking about additional electrical panel and riser work.

01:26:45
We do a lot of affordable projects and would like to expand our tool-kit: solar connections, green roofs, and occupied zones with planters. Is there a resource of details and manufactures of these items?
Giulia Luci
01:28:09
Shelby, I'm looking at a scenario where a portion of my "terrace" has a vegetated part, accessible to tenants. In that case, it looks like I can't account that green roof under "roofing" (because occupiable space), nor under "paving" (because hardscape). Is my understanding correct?
